The Ray Wright Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of a McDonald's owner operator of five restaurants in Dayton, OH. Mr. Wright was with McDonald's for 36 years. He began his career as a crew person at the age of 16. Mr. Wright had plans to go to college to study architecture following high school, but he loved working for McDonald's and the many opportunities available to him, so he decided to make it his career. He passed away in July 2005 after a year and a half battle with pancreatic cancer. According to his family, Mr. Wright had a strong belief in higher education and would want his scholarship to help others reach their full potential. This scholarship provides financial assistance to current employees of McDonald's Restaurants in the Ohio Region to further their studies at an accredited educational institution.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

• Be a graduating high school senior, a current college student or a recipient of a GED
• Currently works at a McDonald's Restaurant in the Ohio Region and has been employed there for a period of no less than twelve months
• Plan to enroll at a two or four year accredited college, university or trade school
• Have a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale (high school)

APPLICATION PROCESS
1. Complete a scholarship application (available from The Dayton Foundation) and return it to The Dayton Foundation by the deadline date.

2. Attach to the application:

• An official transcript of grades through the seventh semester
• A one-page essay on why you are seeking this scholarship
• Job history
• Letter of Acceptance from college, trade school or university
• Letter of Recommendation from your current McDonald's employer

SELECTION PROCESS
The selection of a recipient will be made by a committee appointed by The Dayton Foundation. A member of the Wright family will serve on this committee. The Selection Committee may elect not to award a scholarship if, in its judgment, a suitable candidate cannot be identified.

SIZE AND FREQUENCY OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
Individual $1000 scholarships will be available for awarding. The number of scholarships that will be given will be based upon the distribution policy of The Dayton Foundation and the amount of interest accumulated in the fund.

USE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship may be used for tuition and other related educational expenses.

PAYMENT OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
The Selection Committee will submit the name of the recommended scholarship recipient to The Dayton Foundation's Governing Board on an annual basis. The scholarship will be paid directly to the student's school after the student has confirmed enrollment.
